Here we are at day 47 and still finding fun things to do in Reno.
Gold Panning 101
1. First thing you need.....a
Gold Pan.
Experts (like us) use black pans so that the GOLD is easier to spot.
2.
A good shovel with pick - $9.99 at the local Gold Panning Store. Perfect for digging in the sand or gravel AND for protecting the "mother lode" from bandits!
3.
Location, location, location.
Just outside Virginia City - a sluice box and evidence of a historical find.
A discerning group of prospectors. Cruising Nevada, looking for the perfect spot!
Oh good - a method for carrying our treasure to "Big City" markets.
The committee chose a mostly secret location on the other side of this bridge.
4.
Technique. Swirling the sand & treasure in the gold pan.
We may not have managed to find our retirement "lode" but had SO MUCH FUN playing in the sand. I'm sure our fortune is here, somewhere, and we're committed to finding it on this trip!
