Vancouver to Reno - A Familiar Drive

Days 1 - 4

Our delayed departure from Vancouver (January 11th) was fairly typical of our type of travel.  We were all ready to leave Vancouver (to head back to Reno, Nevada) last weekend.....but staying the extra day was necessary to allow me ONE MORE HOCKEY GAME with the Hot Shots!  As always, my priority is to my team - ha!  Following a fun game on Monday night, we had a TON of final errands to do on Tuesday.

Wednesday, we were set to leave in the morning BUT realized that our truck and trailer insurance would expire towards the end of our trip.  Of course, it wasn't as simple as that - the insurance agent was in the process of extending our car insurance when the ICBC site wouldn't let her go any further.....because our truck would need Aircare before we could renew.  Damn!  Off we went to Aircare, back to the insurance company, and then back to the trailer to pack it all up.  Sheesh.  Good thing we checked!

On the Road Again!

This week's drive from Vancouver to Reno was fairly uneventful (unlike the drive home to Vancouver, where we blew a tire on the last day of driving).
Teamwork!

Wednesday night, we drove until 1:30 am then stopped at a truck stop in Oregon.  Apparently, Wednesdays are the busiest nights on the highways, and the rest stop was chock-a-block full of truck drivers and a few RV'ers getting a few hours of sleep.  Boy was it COLD.  We did have our propane heat on, but it wasn't enough to keep us really warm.  And, of course, we couldn't open up the slides as we just fit into one of the truck parking spaces.  So, Klio slept on the bed with us and Loki copped a spot on the kitchen floor.  The dish soap in the sink was slushy frozen so I took that as a sign that I should boil some water on the stove and use my hot water bottle.  Brrrrrrrilliant!  My nose was tucked into the covers all night to keep warm, the dog curled up at my feet, and the hot water bottle lasted a couple of hours on my back.  Zzzzzzz.

We ended up at Denny's in the morning for 2 Grand Slam breakfasts (we ended up at Denny's because nobody ever really - "goes" TO Denny's) then drove through the day & night.  We arrived in Reno at 10 pm on Thursday.  As we traversed the top of California, the road was becoming more and more familiar and we were actually becoming quite excited about spending a bit of time, again, in our previous Reno haunts.  We even managed to get our old RV spot.  The dogs recognized it too and wiggled like crazy upon arrival.

Yesterday, we spent the day getting the trailer organized, took the dogs out to the desert for a late afternoon walk, and then went to Circus Circus buffet for dinner.  Nice.  Steve managed to gamble away $7 and I "donated" $2.12 to the Slot Machine Gods.  Fun.

It feels good to back to our adventures - Happy New Year, Everyone!

xoxo S&S (L&K)
