Life's an Adventure:
Desert Wildlife, so cool. Animals and birds abound! This afternoon we drove around the hills near Reno, Nevada looking for a good place to really run our dogs. They've been pretty cooped up with only small walks over the past few days.
As usual, Steve is a wee bit more casual about running the dogs in the "wild" desert than me. I'm a bit more cautious (scared, frightened, worry-wart) as I'm not sure what kinds of crawling, slithering, prickly things we may encounter. Well....today we saw a crane, three hawks and a vulture (yikes). And, we saw approx 5 more wild horses (to add to the ones we saw yesterday) and 2 jack rabbits - with Big Ears! Funny thing is that Steve has been swearing up and down that he's seen "Jackalopes" in our Burnaby RV Park all summer long, and I haven't seen any evidence of such. But, here in Nevada, on day 2 in Reno.....Two "Jackalopes" hopping around our desert walk. SO FUN! Next, my goal is to get a good picture of the wild horses. They are absolutely amazing. The dogs ran as though possessed today, and had a great time. I've never seen their tongues hanging so close to the ground. Good thing I brought lots of water for us - they sure needed it!
And, Sometimes, Life's a MISadventure!
Caution - unpleasant story ahead......for our fellow RV'ers out there, here is what you've been waiting to hear: Well, it turns out that the septic catchment in Nevada is a slightly different size than in Canada. So, we had to purchase an attachment for our septic hose to "dump" into the sewer system here. Yes......you guessed it......mid-dumperoo the attachment blew off and raw sewage was spilling all over our RV pad.
I was relaxing in my lawn chair with the dogs and Steve was working on the hook-up. When the **stuff** hit the ground, I did what any good wife would do, stood up, looked around to see who may be watching, and then started to laugh. It was absolutely the most horrific thing ever - and we may as well have put a big 'ol "ROOKIE" sign up on the front of our trailer. Ahhhhh! Surprisingly, it did NOT smell like flowers (as I had expected). And, because Murphy's Law always applies in such circumstances, our RV is the first one in the park - the closest one to the RV office, laundry & pool facilities. Right where anyone going by would look. Sploosh! Very embarrassing. Alas, quick thinking Steve had the hose out quick as a flash, and we shamelessly sprayed the nastiness away. After "the incident" I disappeared into the trailer to hide and Steve took off for a ride on his motorcycle. Lovely!
Next, we did what any self-respecting couple would do while in Reno......we went to the Casino! Had a greasy fried chicken dinner in the only non-smoking restaurant in the Peppermill Casino (must admit it was tasty though) and then proceeded to gamble $10 each. The "Golden Monkey" slot machine giveth and the "Golden Monkey" taketh away.
We'll get to work tomorrow.....promise!

ReplyDeleteOMG you guys, honestly, I thought I was going to have a heart attack! It was SO shocking then SO funny. Poor Steve. He had to "get right in there" to shut off the valve and stop the nastiness. LOL I cannot even type this without laughing again!
ReplyDeleteI'll definitely work on the horse picture - so cool! Love you guys! xoxoxoxo
