May I suggest.......rum?
Well, we made it to Reno last night......a LONG couple of days of driving, but all is well! Day 2 we left Washington and made it most of the way through Oregon. We met all kinds of weather from showers to sun to rain, rain, rain. And, to make things interesting, I managed to wake up to a really fun head cold - sinusitis, headache, sore throat and crankiness :)
Ha! But, that was no match for me and my wanderer/traveler/nomad/adventurer spirit. We drove for hours and hours until 10 pm (many thanks to Tylenol - cold and sinus, Subway, Wendy's [Frosty's - yum], and iPod). We stopped that night at a rest stop in Talent, California. Perfect, I thought, for Steve's karma. Because (who knew) Steve's "talent" is driving a friggin' huge trailer through the southern U.S. Those who have seen Steve dock our boat(s) in all kinds of traffic and stress know that Steve is quite skilled at managing a vessel in the water.....and on the road, he's equally as competent (don't tell him though, it will go straight to his head)! Seriously, all the truckers on the highway are constantly flashing their lights to let our "rig" know that it's safe to change lanes, we are being welcomed into the "big rig" parking spots at the truck stops and gas stations, and Steve is walking with a bit of a swagger these last few days. It shouldn't be too difficult to get Steve to start listening to country music soon. I'm just sayin'.
So, our vehicle length is approx 55' which is the length of the average semi truck and trailer. We are therefore commanding some respect from the commercial truck driving professionals from "Swift," "Schneiders," "Walmart," and UPS. Having our 2 dogs hanging their heads and tongues out the window helps too - they seem to make their own friends along the road as people laugh awkwardly at them hanging out of the vehicle.
Once in Reno, we found an awesome location to stay - the Sparks RV Park and Marina. Ahhhhh, home! Arrived last night at 7:30 and had a bowl of Mr. Noodles for dinner then straight to bed. Very frugal, didn't feel like cooking, very tired.
This morning it was all business. We drove around downtown Reno with an eye for our business opportunities. Then, headed out to the "country" to look for a good place to run the dogs. Managed to get into the empty desert within 10 minutes of downtown, and let the pups out to play.
Klio managed to run into a red ant nest and eat some wild horse poop. Nice.
We saw 7 wild horses (one was a colt) - so awesome. (Jessie, you would have loved it). I am still not feeling 100% so thought to myself.....what would my Grama do in this situation - BUY RUM. 2 glasses of rum & coke later - sinuses are clear, muscles are a little less tense, BBQ dinner seemed to make itself, and life is good. Thanks Grama! I'm currently in negotiations with Steve about my daily gambling budget for Reno.....and so far, it's nil. But, I did manage to get him to "invite me" for dinner tomorrow night at one of the casinos for a "date." WOO HOO! When in Reno........
Hope all is well with you, at home. Miss you lots and lots,
xooxoxox S
